Keeping our streets safe

Further measures to tackle domestic abuse, building on the measures brought in over the last 2 years to strengthen protections for victims, have been announced by the Home Secretary with the backing of Conservative MPs.

I’ve always said that every resident of Burnley and Padiham should feel safe on the streets, and at home. And I've been working on just that.

My focus has been on two priorities:

Antony Higginbotham MP has welcomed the Government’s decision to give councils £125 million to provide vital support services for domestic abuse victims in 2022-23, taking the total support to date to £330 million.

Local MP Antony Higginbotham has welcomed the announcement that 276 police officers have been recruited in Lancashire since September 2019, bringing the total number of officers up to 3,264.

He praised the police and backed the new Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill which is progressing through Parliament.

Nearly 9,000 police officers have been recruited as part of the Conservative Government’s campaign to recruit an additional 20,000 by March 2023, with 199 more in Lancashire alone.

Lancashire Constabulary receives an extra £710,500 to tackle serious violent crime, including knife crime and murder.
This investment is part of the £130.5 million funding package announced to tackle serious violent crime across England and Wales.

Lancashire County Council to receive £2,493,526 to help fund a new duty to ensure victims and their children are able to access life-saving support in safe accommodation.
Burnley Borough Council to receive £31,778 to help work with LCC to provide additional support.

Lancashire Constabulary receives an extra £1.16 million to go towards Violence Reduction Units, which work to reduce serious violence.

This investment is part of the extra £35.5 million announced for police forces across England and Wales.

The views of women and girls across Burnley and Padiham are being sought to help shape government strategy to tackle violence and abuse.
