Last week the local Member of Parliament for Burnley and Padiham Antony Higginbotham hosted a roundtable of Burnley based manufacturing businesses alongside Amanda Solloway MP, the Government Minister responsible for innovation in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
Attended by some of the most prominent engineering businesses from within the borough, as well as the Principal of Burnley College, it was an opportunity for a discussion about what is needed to drive forward economic growth as the country looks to bounce back from the Coronavirus pandemic.
One of the main items discussed was the role of skills and education in ensuring the country is fit for the future, with the College also highlighting the work they are doing with employers to match skills to local need.
Commenting after the event Antony said:
We have some fantastic local businesses in Burnley and Padiham and I'm determined to do everything I can to help them grow and find new markets, because that's how we will drive forward our economy and create more high-wage, high-skilled jobs for local people.
This roundtable, bringing together some of the largest manufacturers, was a good opportunity to discuss the steps Government can take to support manufacturing and it was great to be joined by the Minister who took away a number of important points."
One of the companies in attendance was LP Technology. Based in Padiham it serves a wide range of sectors from retail to construction, providing everything from design and innovation to logistics and installations.
CEO of LP Technology Luke Pringle said:
