MP Antony Higginbotham welcomed the Conservative Party Chairman this week to speak with and listen to the needs of farmers from across Burnley and Padiham.

Organised in partnership with the National Union of Farmers it was an opportunity to hear from those who know the land and work to keep the nation fed. Mr. Higginbotham and Cabinet member Richard Holden MP met with several farmers who gathered at the New Bridge End Farm on Halifax Road in Briercliffe.

Speaking about the visit Antony said:

Our local farmers not only produce top quality food but also play a pivotal role in maintaining our beautiful countryside. And so it was great to meet with and listen to some upland farmers with the NUF and Conservative Party Chairman Richard Holden MP.

I'll always back our farming community in Burnley and Padiham. Having spoken up for them in Parliament multiple times, and supported a 'Buy British' section on supermarket websites, I believe it's vital that we continue to do everything we can to support them. Part of that is working to improve the system they operate under. Because British farmers are not only producing top quality food but they play a pivotal role in maintaining our beautiful countryside.

It comes alongside what is proving a successful campaign is being run to push national supermarkets to introduce a "Buy British" section on their websites. The change is about promoting homegrown produce and choice, as well as providing environmental benefits. So far six major national supermarkets have made the change with Antony Higginbotham MP hoping more will soon follow.

Commenting Antony said:

The aim of the ‘Buy British’ tab is simple; to make it even easier for shoppers in Burnley and Padiham to buy homegrown produce, which has the dual bonus of helping to protect our environment while supporting Britain’s farmers.
